Ingredients

Puff Pastry and Filling

  • 1 package puff pastry (thawed) Thawed but cold for best results.
  • 1 cup cream cheese (softened) Full-fat for the best taste or light version for a healthier option.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to use pepper jack or a blend of Mexican cheeses.
  • 1/2 cup fresh jalapeños (finely chopped) Reduce the amount or remove seeds if you prefer less spice.
  • 1 large egg (beaten for egg wash) Gives a golden color when baked.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Essential for flavor enhancement.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • On a floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry. Cut into strips about 1-inch wide and 4-5 inches long.
  • In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, finely chopped jalapeños, salt, and pepper. Mix until creamy.
  • Take a strip of puff pastry and spoon a generous amount of the cheese mixture down the center.
  • Fold the puff pastry over the filling and twist it to encase the cheese mixture.
  • Place the twisted pastries onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.

Baking

  • Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden and puffed.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold for the best rise. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Can be made ahead and frozen.
