Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4-6 medium medium apples (peeled, cored, and chopped) Mix varieties like Granny Smith and Fuji for depth of flavor.
  • 1/2 cup water Helps to soften the apples while they’re cooking.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Adjust to taste based on sweetness preference.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adds warmth and nostalgia.
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional) Elevates flavor and prevents browning.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large pot, toss in your chopped apples and pour in the 1/2 cup of water.

Cooking

  • Turn the heat to medium and cover. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the apples have softened, use a potato masher to mash them to your preferred texture.
  • Sprinkle in sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice (if using) and stir it in. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let cool before transferring to bowls or jars.

Storage

  • Transfer the applesauce to an airtight container and store in the fridge.

Notes

For best results, chop apples uniformly and taste test for sweetness as you go. Seasonal apples recommended for deeper flavors.
