Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients into the wet mixture, whisking until well combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.

Baking

  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Caramel Sauce

  • In a medium saucepan, combine heavy cream, remaining sugar, and unsalted butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring often.
  • Remove from heat, then stir in sea salt and a splash of vanilla extract.

Crunch Topping

  • In a small bowl, mix together chopped pecans, granulated sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon until well combined.

Assembly

  • Once the cakes have cooled, place one layer on a serving plate.
  • Drizzle generously with caramel sauce and sprinkle with the crunchy topping. Repeat with the second layer.
